5k Track Challenge

A warm late summer evening saw a fantastic turnout for the 2nd leg of the 2 fixtureTrack Challenge. The first leg was held in Ipswich in June. This leg, hosted by Pacers, saw the club go head to head for a second time with Ipswich Jaffas and Stowmarket Striders. 

The Juniors Girls took to the track first for their 1500m, Pacers girls were in joint first place with Jaffas after June's fixture.This time Pacers gained first place with Francesca Nichols running strongly and finishing with a fantastically timed sprint (5.22). Pacers Kirsten O'Brien took 3rd place (5.39) while the girls from all 3 clubs ran well in a competitive race.

In the second 1500m race, Pacers Junior Boys defended their lead taking the top 3 places - Lewis Sullivan (4.56) Max Daplyn (4.58) Jonny Peate (5.00). Pacers Junior Team won the combined Track Challenge with a score of 1927 (Jaffas 1817, Striders1565). Well done to them and to all the Juniors who took to the track so confidently. 

The first Senior 5k Race was led by Robert Chenery (Jaffa) who had a thrilling race against the clock to win just inside 16mins (15.59). Pacers'  Kevin Murphy was a strong 2nd (17.12) and the first of 5 Pacers to finish in the top 10 - Henry Steele 4th (17.35), Tom Light 5th (17.42), Joe Robson 7th (17.50) and Steven Quercia-Smale 10th (18.18). Pacers' also took first and second female places with great runs by Odette Robson (18.28) and Angie Joiner-Handy (18.49). 

The second Senior 5k saw a large field of competitors. Jaffa took the top 2 positions but Pacers finished with 5 of the top 10 places in this heat and Katie Margarson taking 4th over-all lady in the evening's challenge (20.11).

As the evening light faded flood lights were needed for the 40 runners who took part in the final 5k of the evening. Many of the runners achieving PBs.

Ipswich Jaffas were the Team winners of the Combined Track Challenge, with the Pacers Seniors in second place only 5 points behind.

The evening was well organsied with a great attendance of runners and supporters. A plentiful supply of homemade cakes ensured all there were well fed! Many thanks to all those who took part in this exciting event and to those who volunteered their time and help.
